Your first 10K: what you need to know

Your first 10K: what you need to know

A practical, honest guide to the eight weeks before the SPORTIFY 10K — pacing, fuelling and the mistakes almost everyone makes.

The 10K is the most misjudged distance in road running. It is short enough to feel casual and long enough to punish a fast first kilometre.

Build three sessions a week: one easy, one steady, one with structure. Keep the easy run genuinely easy — that is where the adaptation happens.

On race morning, hold back for the first two kilometres. The SPORTIFY course opens with a downhill stretch along the docks and it flatters everyone who runs it too fast.

Did the 21K last year and this read brought the whole thing back. That last kilometre under the yellow arch is unreal.

Anyone else pairing the morning social run with the afternoon recovery circuit? Best combo of the week, my legs said thank you.

The sprint lab data was the highlight for me. Walked out with my own gait model and instantly changed how I warm up.

New to SPORTIFY this year — is the Friday night set beginner friendly or should I start with the rooftop sundown?
